Lehua's Chapter 10 reflection
The point about giving feedback to our students really struck me most. It is so important to give positive feedback - maybe just as important as giving feedback about improvements. I keep on regretting the times, especially during my running records time when we were just starting out doing the RRs, that I forgot to give positive feedback. There were even times, to be honest, when I completely forgot to give feedback at all. That's when I felt like they must have felt as if they were laboratory animals. They were just there to be tested and then put back - for my benefit. For the most part, I did RRs with the same group of about ten students to see the progress, so hopefully they didn't feel like an experiment that just benefited me but instead, that they got some practice reading and using picture clues. I have to remember that each and every time if I want to become an effective teacher.

I know exactly how you feel. Sometimes, I completely forgot to give feedback to my students as well. And yeah, it does make them seem as if they're just test subjects whom we assess and then send back when we're finished. Sometimes we forget about our main focus. Not assessments, but the students. We're here for them, and for no other reason. They should always be the focus of every conference, every test, everything. I hope I never forget to give them feedback again (even though I know I will because nobody's perfect).
