Leila's Chapter 8 Reflection

In this chapter, Sharon demonstrates how to do guided reading in small-group setting. It takes a lot of planning and assessment to identify what groups a student belongs in. The groups are created based on their reading level. This idea seems like students are being tracked. I can understand why she would create the groups in that particular way because that way you can focus on the same problem with similar students. I was wondering how effective is it when groups are set up this particular way compared to others. I was thinking why don't we mixed the groups up where it creates an equal opportunity for all students. For example, spread out the fluent readers so that students can help and learn from each other. Just a thought that came up as I read about the section on listing the groups.
